DATA COMMUNICATION OVER ELECTRICAL LOW VOLTAGE DISTRIBUTION NETWORKS REQUIRES CHARACTERIZATION OF SUCH CHANNELS FOR COMMUNICATION PURPOSES. IN THIS RESPECT, NOISE MODEL, CABLE LOSSES AND MULTI-PATH PROPAGATION ARE IMPORTANT FACTORS, INFLUENCING THE CHANNEL BEHAVIOR. THE NOISE IN A COMMUNICATION CHANNEL IS, USUALLY, MODELED AS WHITE GAUSSIAN NOISE. HOWEVER, THE DOMINANT NOISE WITHIN A POWER LINE NETWORK IS IMPULSE NOISE, GENERATED BY SWITCHING TRANSIENTS IN THE NETWORK. THIS PAPER INTRODUCES THE PARAMETERS OF IMPULSE NOISE AND PROVIDES THE NOISE PARAMETERS OBTAINED FROM EXPERIMENTAL DATA. THE PAPER, ALSO, PRESENTS THE SIMULATION RESULTS FOR THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE NOISE PARAMETERS BASED ON THEIR STATISTICS.
