Abstract: 

IN THIS STUDY THE SURFACE OF POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE (PET) FILMS WERE IRRADIATED USING LIGHT OF CO2 AND KRF EXCIMER PULSED LASER. THE CHANGES IN THE SURFACE PROPERTIES DUE TO LASER IRRADIATION WERE CHARACTERIZED BY SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM) AND CONTACT ANGLE MEASUREMENTS. ADHESION OF ESCHERICHIA COLI K-12 BACTERIA ON THE IRRADIATED SURFACES BY CO2 AND KRF LASERS WAS STUDIED IN-VITRO. THE NUMBER OF BACTERIA THAT HAD ADHERED ON THE SURFACES WAS INVESTIGATED BY GRAM STAINING AND OPTICAL MICROSCOPIC OBSERVATIONS. BACTERIAL CULTURE EXPERIMENT SHOWED THAT ADHESION OF E.COLI K-12 BACTERIA ON THE IRRADIATED SURFACES BY LASER IN COMPARISON WITH UNMODIFIED SURFACES WAS INCREASED.
