Abstract: 

FIBULAR COLLATERAL LIGAMENT (LATERAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT) (LCL) IS ONE OF THE FOUR BASIC LIGAMENTS IN KNEE JOINT. IN TRAUMAS THAT STRIKE THE KNEE LATERALLY AND IN SOME DISORDERS LIKE GENOVARUM, THE KNEE DEVIATES TO THE LATERAL SIDE. STRAIN OF FIBULAR COLLATERAL LIGAMENT IS DUE TO THIS DEVIATION MAY LEAD TO PARTIAL OR TOTAL RUPTURE OF LIGAMENT. IN THIS STUDY THE STRESS AND STRAIN DISTRIBUTIONS IN A THREE DIMENSIONAL MODEL OF GENOVARUM DISORDER OF HUMAN LCL HAVE BEEN ANALYZED USING NUMERICAL SIMULATION. GEOMETRY OF LIGAMENT HAS BEEN CHOSEN SAME AS ANATOMICAL DATA FROM PREVIOUS STUDIES. THE LIGAMENT IS CONSIDERED AS AN ISOTROPIC MATERIAL, WITH MODULUS OF ELASTICITY 0.06 GPA AND POISSON’S RATIO OF 0.45. A LINEAR ELASTIC FINITE ELEMENT MODEL HAS BEEN USED. RESULTS OF STRESS DISTRIBUTIONS WITHIN THE LIGAMENT HAVE BEEN STUDIED AND MAXIMUM STRESS HAS BEEN LOCALIZED. THESE RESULTS INDICATE THAT MAXIMUM STRESS IS ON THE MIDLINE OF LIGAMENT, WHICH IS IN ACCORD WITH THE CLINICAL FINDING.
