Abstract: 

FUNCTIONAL MAGNETIC RESONANCE IS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST STRIKING METHODS TO STUDY ON HUMAN BRAIN SPATIAL FUNCTIONALITY AND CONNECTIVITY. HOWEVER, IT SUFFERS FROM LOW SIGNAL-TO-NOISE RATIO AND STATISTICALLY DIFFERENT NOISES. TWO DISTINCT APPROACHES CAN BE EXPLOITED FOR FMRI ANALYSIS. PARAMETRIC APPROACHES USE PRIORI KNOWLEDGE TO DISTINGUISH ACTIVE AND INACTIVE BRAIN VOXELS. NONPARAMETRIC APPROACHES EXTRACT STRUCTURE OF DATA EXPLORATORY. IT IS COMPLICATED TO EVALUATE EACH APPROACH.
IN THIS PAPER WE COMPARE TWO FEATURE EXTRACTION METHODS OF FMRI ANALYSIS IN TIME- INVARIANT WAVELET DOMAIN AND SURVEY THEIR ABILITY TO DEAL WITH DIFFERENT EXCITATION PROFILES. THE PARAMETRIC METHOD EXPLOITS A PRIORI HEMODYNAMIC MODEL TO FIND THE BEST LINEAR COMBINATION FOR TIWT COEFFICIENTS AND DISTINGUISHES THE ACTIVE AND INACTIVE VOXELS. THE NONPARAMETRIC METHOD DISCOVERS EXISTING HIDDEN STRUCTURES OF DATA FOR DISCRIMINATING ACTIVE AND INACTIVE VOXELS BY USING THE BEST TIWT COEFFICIENT WHICH IS MORE SENSITIVE TO ACTIVATION.
