Abstract:

THE EXISTENCE OF WEED SEEDS WITHIN CROP SEEDS REDUCES THE QUALITY OF WHOLE CROP SEED LOTS. CLEANING SEEDS IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO INCREASE THE QUALITY OF CROP SEEDS. THUS, THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS SURVEY WAS TO DETERMINE PERCENTAGE OF WEED SEED INFESTATIONS AND THEIR COMPOSITION IN THREE COMMON WHEAT CULTIVARS HAVING BEEN CULTIVATED IN TEHRAN PROVINCE INCLUDING PISHTAZ, M79-6 AND M97-7, BEFORE AND AFTER THE PROCESS OF CLEANING WHEAT SEEDS. THE SEEDS OF LEPYRODICLIS HOLOSTEOIDES, AND CARDARIA DRABA HAD THE MOST FREQUENCY IN WHEAT SEED LOTS WHILE THE LOWEST INFESTATION WAS SEEN WITH AVENA SPP. AND GOLDBACHIA LAEVIGATA. M79-6 WAS THE MOST INFESTED WHEAT CULTIVAR. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS, IF CLEANING PROCESS IS NOT TAKEN, A FARMER MAY PLANT MORE THAN 1570 WEED SEEDS BY HIS HANDS LEADING TO HIGH WEED POPULATIONS IN HIS FIELD.
