Abstract: 

IN THIS STUDY, THE GENETIC DIVERSITY OF 58 ACCESSIONS OF PHALARIS SP. FROM FARS, KHUZESTAN AND GOLESTAN PROVINCES WAS ASSESSED USING 3 MICRO SATELLITE MARKERS. IN OVERALL, 34 POLYMORPHIC ALLELES WITH AN AVERAGE OF 11.3 ALLELES PER LOCUS WERE AMPLIFIED. UBC 809 MARKER WITH 10 ALLELES AND UBC 810 MARKER WITH 13 ALLELES SHOWED THE MINIMUM AND MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ALLELES AMONG THE STUDIED LOCI, RESPECTIVELY. THE POLYMORPHIC INFORMATION CONTENT (PIC) VALUES OF THE LOCI RANGED FROM 0.24 (UBC 812) TO 0.40 (UBC 809). MOREOVER MARKER INDEX (MI) VALUES RANGED FROM 2.64 TO 4.94 FOR UBC 812 AND UBC 810 LOCI, RESPECTIVELY. GROUPING OF GENOTYPES USING NTSYS SOFTWARE VERSION 2.02E, WITH THE METHODS OF UPGMA AND JACCARD CORRELATION COEFFICIENT, SHOWED AN AVERAGE OF 0.59 GENETIC SIMILARITY BETWEEN THE GENOTYPES. THE MOST GENETIC SIMILARITY WAS 0.94, WHICH OCCURS BETWEEN TWO GENOTYPES FROM FARS AND KHUZESTAN. A GENOTYPE FROM KHUZESTAN SHOWED MINIMUM GENETIC DIVERSITY (0.60) WITH RESPECT TO THE OTHER GENOTYPES. THE MEASURED RELATIVE GENETIC DISTANCES AMONG ACCESSIONS WAS NOT CORRELATED TO THE GEOGRAPHICAL DISTANCES OF PLACES OF THEIR ORIGINS, INDICATING THAT THE POPULATIONS ARE GENETICALLY DIFFERENT. THE RESULTS DEMONSTRATED THAT MICRO SATELLITES ARE SUITABLE FOR ASSESSING GENETIC DIVERSITY OF PHALARIS ACCESSIONS.
