Abstract:

THIS EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED IN 2006 AND 2007 AT AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH CENTERS, DEZFUL, ESFAHAN AND TEHRAN (KARAJ) TO EVALUATE THE EFFICACY OF SELECTED HERBICIDES ON WEEDS AND YIELD OF DIRECT SEEDED TOMATO. THE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN AT EACH LOCATION WAS A COMPLETE RANDOMIZED BLOCK WITH TEN TREATMENTS AND THREE REPLICATIONS. TREATMENTS WERE: PRE EMERGENCE APPLICATION OF METRIBUZIN AT 0.53 AND 0.7 KG AI/HA, POST EMERGENCE APPLICATION OF METRIBUZIN AT 0.53 AND 0.7 KG AI HA-1 AT 4-LEAF STAGE OF TOMATO, PRE PLANT AND PRE EMERGENCE APPLICATION OF OXYFLUORFEN EACH AT 0.48 KG AI HA-1, PRE PLANT APPLICATION OF NAPROPAMIDE AT 0.6 AND 1.08 KG AI HA-1 RESPECTIVELY, WEEDY AND WEED FREE CHECKS. COMPARED TO THE WEEDY CHECK, AVERAGE NUMBERS OF WEEDS WERE REDUCED BY APPLICATION OF: METRIBUZIN PRE AND POST WAS 82 AND 69%, RESPECTIVELY, OXYFLUORFEN 74% AND NAPROPAMIDE 51%. THE EFFECT OF HERBICIDE TREATMENTS ON TOMATO YIELD INCREASE WOULD RANK: WEED FREE CHECK>METRIBUZIN (PRE EMERGENCE APPLICATION)>NAPROPAMIDE>OXYFLUORFEN>METRIBUZIN (POST EMERGENCE APPLICATION)>WEEDY CHECK. ACCORDING TO THE RESULTS, FOR PROFITABLE CONTROL OF WEEDS AND INCREASE OF FRUIT YIELD, APPLICATION OF NAPRONAMID 0.6 OR 1.08 KG AI HA-1 (PRE PLANT), METRIBUZIN 0.53 OR 0.7 KG AI HA-1 (PREEMERGENCE OR POST EMERGENCE AT 4-LEAF STAGE OF TOMATO), AND HAND WEED DURING THE SEASON IS SUGGESTED.
