Abstract: 

IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CRITICAL PERIOD OF WEED CONTROL OF WHITE COMMON BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS) KESHAVARZ CULTIVAR, IN KHORAMDAREHE REGION, AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED IN 2006. TREATMENTS WERE REPLICATED THREE TIMES IN A COMPLETE RANDOMIZED BLOCK DESIGN. TREATMENTS INCLUDED WEED FREE AND WEED INFESTED PERIOD WITH 10 DAYS INTERVAL AFTER CROP EMERGENCE. WEED CONTROL FROM CROP EMERGENCE TO 10, 20, 30, 40 AND 50 DAYS AFTER EMERGENCE AND WEED ALLOW TO INTERFERE FROM EMERGENCE TIME TO THE AFOREMENTIONED STAGES OF BEAN GROWTH. ALSO, TWO ADDITIONAL TREATMENTS WERE ARRANGED IN CONTROL PLOTS AS WEED FREE AND WEED INFESTED RESPECTIVELY. RESULTS SHOWED A CRITICAL PERIOD OF WEED CONTROL BASED ON 5% OF ACCEPTABLE YIELD LOSS FROM 21-43 DAYS AFTER EMERGENCE (22 DAYS). BEAN YIELD LOSS, INCREASE WITH INCREASING DURATION OF WEED INTERFERENCE, AND DECREASE WITH INCREASING DURATION OF WEED CONTROL.
