Abstract: 

A FIELD EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTS OF TILLAGE SYSTEMS AND WEEDING TREATMENTS ON WEED DENSITY AND BIOMASS IN VARIOUS CHICKPEA CULTIVARS IN THE FERDOWSI UNIVERSITY OF MASHHAD RESEARCH STATION DURING 2008-09. THE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN WAS A STRIP SPLIT PLOT BASED ON A RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN WITH THREE REPLICATIONS. STUDIED FACTORS INCLUDED TYPE OF TILLAGE AT 3 LEVELS (CONVENTIONAL TILLAGE, REDUCED TILLAGE WITHOUT USING HERBICIDE AND REDUCED TILLAGE WITH USING HERBICIDE), VARIOUS CHICKPEA CULTIVARS AT 3 LEVELS (ILC482, HASHEM, AZAD) AND WEEDING AT 2 LEVELS. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT DENSITY AND BIOMASS OF WEEDS IN VARIOUS TILLAGE TREATMENTS WERE SIGNIFICANTLY DEFERENT. THE LOWEST WEED DENSITY AND BIOMASS WERE OBTAINED IN REDUCED TILLAGE+HERBICIDE+WEEDING TREATMENT. WEED DENSITY AND BIOMASS BETWEEN 3 CHICKPEA CULTIVARS WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT.
