Abstract:

IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE COMPETITION BETWEEN TWO LINES OF WHITE BEAN (PHASEOLUS VULGARIS) IN THREE DENSITIES WITH WEEDS AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED AT KHOMEIN BEAN RESEARCH STATION. EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN WAS A RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK WITH A SPLIT- FACTORIEL PLOT TREATMENT ARRANGEMENT AND 4 REPLICATIONS. THE WEEDY AND WEED- FREE CONDITIONS WERE AS MAIN PLOTS AND THREE PLANT DENSITIES (30, 40 AND 50 PLANT/M2 OR 60, 50 AND 40 CM ROW SPACINGS, RESPECTIVELY) WITH TWO LINES OF BEAN (KS41105 AND KS41124) WERE AS SUBPLOT. INCREASING DENSITY RESULTED MORE YIELD IN WEEDY AND WEED- FREE CONDITIONS. IN WEEDY CONDITIONS 50 AND 40 PLNAT/M2 DENSITIES HAD MAXIMUM VIELD FOR KS41105 AND KS41124 LINES, RESPECTIVELY. IN BOTH LINES THE PRESENCE OF WEEDS DECREASED YIELD COMPONENTS SUCH AS NUMBER OF PODS AND 100-SEED WEIGHT, BUT HAD NO EFFECT ON NUMBERS OF SEED IN POD. YIELD REDUCTION IN KS41105 LINE WAS MORE THAN KS41124 LINE IN PRESENCE OF WEEDS.
