Abstract:

A FIELD EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED AT THE RESEARCH FARM OF UNIVERSITY OF TEHRAN, KARAJ, IRAN DURING THE GROWING SEASON OF 2006-2007 TO DETERMINE THE EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT DENSITY OF SINGLE AND MULTI SPECIES POPULATIONS OF COMMON COCKLEBUR AND RED ROOT PIGWEED ON SOYBEAN YIELD. COMMON COCKLEBUR AND RED ROOT PIGWEED WEREESTABLISHED AT DENSITY OF 0, 2, 4, 8 AND 0, 4, 8, 12 PLANTS M-1 OF ROW. RESULTS SHOWED THAT SOYBEAN YIELD WAS AFFECTED MARKEDLY BY WEED LEAF ARE AND DRY MATTER. SOYBEAN YIELD LOSS FOR EACH LAI UNIT OF COMMON COCKLEBUR AND RED ROOT PIGWEED WAS 26.7 AND 16.7 RESPECTIVELY. ALSO, SOYBEAN YIELD WAS DECREASED ABOUT 7.5% AND 5.8% FOR 100 GR TDM OF COMMON COCKLEBUR AND RET ROOT PIGWEED, RESPECTIVELY.
