Abstract: 

In order to discriminate the iron bearing dolomite unit associated with Pb-Zn mineralization from other carbonate rocks such as limestone and/or dolomIte bearing limestone at North-South flank of Irankuh in South-West of Isfahan, the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) has been employed. In the current study the relationship between eigenvector loadings and individual bands shows that the first principal component is dominated by the general alberdo of the scanned area while the second component indicates the contrast between visible and reflective infrared red bands. Thus because of the presence of iron and silicified sands in the iron bearing sandy dolomite unit, the second pricipal component image was used for discriminating the iron bearing dolomite unit from other lithologic units. The third PCA image is mainly due to the distribution of white noise and other unrelated phenomenon.
