Abstract: 

IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE THE COMPETITION BETWEEN WINTER WHEAT AND WILD OAT (AVENA FATUA L) AT DIFFERENT NITROGEN APPLICATION TIME A FIELD EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED AT THE RESEARCH STATION OF THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, SHIRAZ UNIVERSITY AT BAJGAH IN 2008. A FACTORIAL RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN WITH FOUR REPLICATIONS WAS USED. TREATMENTS INCLUDED EIGHT SPLIT NITROGEN APPLICATIONS IN THREE DATES (PREPLANTING, 14 FEBRUARY AND 14 APRIL) IN WEEDY AND WEED FREE CONDITIONS. RESULTS REVEALED THAT IN WEEDY CONDITION T1 TREATMENT (0 AT PREPLANTING+1/3 AT 14 FEBRUARY +2/3 AT 14 APRIL) AND T7 (0 AT PREPLANTING+1/2 AT 14 FEBRUARY+1/2 AT 14 APRIL) HAD THE HIGHEST VALUE FOR GRAIN YIELD, SEED NUMBER, AND BIOLOGICAL YIELD AND THE LOWEST VALUES OF WEED DRY WEIGHT AND HEIGHT. RESULT INDICATED THAT IN WEEDY CONDITION, NITROGEN TIMING SHOULD BE CLOSER TO THE FINAL GROWTH STAGES OF WHEAT. AT THE SAME CONDITION THE LOWEST VALUES FOR GRAIN YIELD, SEED NUMBER, AND BIOLOGICAL YIELD WERE OBTAINED FROM T5 (ALL OF NITROGEN APPLICATION AT PREPLANTING) AND THE HIGHEST VALUES OF WEED DRY WEIGHT AND HEIGHT. IN WEED FREE CONDITION, T3 (1/3 AT PREPLANTING+2/3 AT 14 FEBRUARY+0 AT 14 APRIL) HAD THE HIGHEST VALUES OF GRAIN YIELD, SEED NUMBER, AND BIOLOGICAL YIELD AND T5 (ALL OF NITROGEN WAS USED AT PREPLANTING) HAD THE LOWEST VALUES FOR GRAIN YIELD, SEED NUMBER, AND BIOLOGICAL YIELD.
