Abstract:

IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE RESPONSE OF PHYSIOLOGICAL GROWTH INDICES OF CANOLA TO WEED COMPETITION AN EXPERIMENT WAS CARRIED IN 2008 RAMIN AGRICULTURAL AND NATURAL RESEARCH UNIVERSITY. THE EXPERIMENT CONSISTED OF 14 TREATMENTS WHICH LAID OUT IN A RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN WITH 4 REPLICATIONS. THE TREATMENT INCLUDED WEED FREE AND WEED INFESTED PERIOD TO 2TH LEAF (V2), 4TH LEAF (V4), 6TH LEAF (V6), 8TH LEAF (V8), INITIATION OF FLOWERING LEAF (IF) AND POD SETTING (P) WITH WEEDING AND INTERFERENCE FOR WHOLE GROWTH STAGE AS CONTROLS WERE TREATMENTS. IN ORDER TO CALCULATE THE GROWTH INDICES, SAMPLING WAS STARED 2TH LEAF (V2) AND REPEATED AT 5 DAYS INTERVAL, FOR 8 TIMES. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT, TOTAL DRY MATTER ACCUMULATION WAS NOT AFFECTED BY WEED FREE PERIOD TILL 45 DAYS AFTER EMERGENCE; HIGHEST DIFFERENCE FOR DRY WEIGHT WAS OBSERVED BETWEEN WEED FREE PERIODS AT ABOUT A 30 DAYS AFTER EMERGENCE. ALSO RESULTED SEVERAL IMPACTS ON MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF CANOLA AND AND LEAF AREA INDEX REDUCTION.
