Abstract: 

SINCE CO2 IS ONE OF THE MOST EFFECTIVE FACTORS IN AGRICULTURE AND C4 SPECIES SHOW DIFFERENT RESPONSES TO THE ELEVATED CO2 CONCENTRATION AND COMPETITION ABILITY OF THESE SPECIES WILL CHANGE IN THE FUTURE, AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED TO EVALUATE EFFECT OF ELEVATED CO2 CONCENTRATION ON COMPETITIVE ABILITY OF AMARANTHUS RETROFLEXUS AGAINST SOYBEAN AND PANICUM AT THE RESEARCH GREENHOUSE OF THE FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE FERDOWSI UNIVERSITY OF MASHHAD. EXPERIMENT WAS FACTORIAL BASED ON A COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED BLOCK DESIGN WITH THREE REPLICATIONS. TREATMENTS INCLUDED AMBIENT (360 PPM) AND ELEVATED (700 PPM) CO2 CONCENTRATIONS AND VARIOUS COMBINATIONS OF THE PLANTATION OF A. RETROFLEXUS AND CROPS, WHETHER OF THE PURE CULTURE OR INTER CROPPING. RESULTS OF THE EXPERIMENT SHOWED THAT, AS THE CO2 CONCENTRATION INCREASED, PIGWEED, S (C4) STEM LENGTH, STEM DRY MATTER AND ROOT VOLUME DECREASED AGAINST SOYBEAN AND MILLET.
