Abstract:

IN ORDER TO STUDY THE EFFECTS OF ROW DISTANCE AND DURATION OF WEED INTERFERENCE ON YIELD AND YIELD COMPONENTS OF CANOLA AS A SECOND CROP AFTER RICE, A FACTORIAL EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED USING A RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN WITH 3 REPLICATIONS AT RICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF IRAN (RRII) IN RASHT. TREATMENTS WERE ROW DISTANCE AT 2 LEVELS (25 AND 35 CM) AND DURATION OF WEED INTERFERENCE AT 7 LEVELS INCLUDING WEED COMPETITION WITH CANOLA UNTIL THE END OF CROP EMERGENCE, 2, 4, 8 LEAF STAGES, AND EMERGENCE OF FLOWERING BUD INITIATION AND THEN THE WEEDS OF EACH TREATMENT WERE REMOVED MANUALLY UNTIL HARVEST. TWO TREATMENTS AS CONTROL INCLUDING WEEDY AND WEED FREE CHECKS WERE ALSO SELECTED. THE RESULTS INDICATED THAT THE EFFECTS OF ROW DISTANCE, DURATION OF WEED INTERFERENCE AND THEIR INTERACTIONS ON SEED YIELD, POD NUMBER PER PLANT AND SEED NUMBER PER POD ARE SIGNIFICANT. THE EFFECTS OF ROW DISTANCE AND DURATION OF WEED INTERFERENCE ON SEED WEIGHT WAS ALSO, SIGNIFICANT BUT INTERACTIONS BETWEEN THESE FACTORS ON THIS TRAIT WERE NOT SIGNIFICANT.
