Abstract: 

A TWO YEARS FIELD EXPERIMNET WAS CONDUCTED AT AGRICULTURAL RESEARCH STATION, FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, UNIVERSITY OF TABRIZ, IN 2004-2005 AND 2005-2006 GROWING SEASONS TO COMPARE THE CRITICAL PERIOD FOR WEED CONTROL IN THREE WINTER OILSEED RAPE (BRASSICA NAPUS) CULTIVARS. CULTIVARS EVALUATED INCLUDED OKAPI, LICORD AND SLM046. WEED CONTROL TREATMENTS INCLUDED OF TWO SERIES: WEED CONTROL AND WEED INFESTED UP TO 0-LEAF, 4-LEAF, 8-LEAF, STEM ELONGATION, FLOWERING AND POD SET STAGES, PLUS WEED-FREE CONTROL AND WEED-INFESTED CONTROL FOR GROWING SEASON. BASED ON THE LOGISTIC AND GOMPERTZ MODELS AND WITH CONSIDERING 10% ACCEPTABLE YIELD LOSS, THE CRITICAL PERIOD FOR THE GRAIN YIELD RANGED FROM SIX-LEAF TO EARLY FLOWERING (47-113 DAE), SIX-SEVEN-LEAF TO EARLY FLOWERING (50-110 DAE) AND SEVEN-LEAF TO EARLY FLOWERING (52-110 DAE) STAGES FOR OKAPI, LICORD AND SLM046 CULTIVARS, RESPECTIVELY. DUE TO THE HIGHER SENSITIVITY OF OKAPI CULTIVAR TO WEED COMPETITION, THE RANGE OF THE CRITICAL WEED INTERFERENCE PERIOD IN THIS CULTIVAR WAS HIGHER THAN THE OTHER CULTIVARS. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT SLM046 CULTIVAR FOR MOST OF THE CHARACTERS WAS BETTER THAN OKAPI AND LICORD CULTIVARS. THE MAXIMUM VALUE FOR MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERS BELONGED TO THE SLM046 CULTIVAR, BECAUSE THIS CULTIVAR HAS MORE BRANCHES AND LEAVES. THEREFORE, IT SEEMS THAT FOR YIELD PRODUCTION WITH HIGHER QUANTITY, SLM046 CULTIVAR IS APPROPRIATE.
