Abstract: 

SEED GERMINATION, SEEDLING EMERGENCE OF WEEDS IS IMPORTANT FACTORS FOR DEFINING THEIR SITUATION IN AGRO ECOSYSTEM. SOME WEEDS SUCH AS AMARANTHUS RETROFLEXUS AND CHENOPODIUM ALBUM WITH HIGH SEED PRODUCTIONS ARE AMONG MAIN PROLIFIC WEED SPECIES IN FIELDS. THIS EXPERIMENT WAS DONE TO EVALUATE THE EFFECT OF DIFFERENT CONCENTRATIONS OF SORGHUM ALLOPATHIC COMPOUNDS AT VARIABLE EXPOSURE DURATIONS ON GERMINATION OF A. RETROFLEXUS AND C. ALBUM SEEDS (EXTRACTED FROM SOIL SEEDBANK). TO DETERMINE POTENTIAL OF SEED BANK, SOIL SAMPLES WERE TAKEN AND NUMBER OF DIFFERENT WEED SEEDS WAS ESTIMATED. RESULTS SHOWED THAT SEEDS OF A. RETROFLEXUS AND C. ALBUM WERE DOMINATED IN SEEDBANKS. THERE WERE 2470 WEEDS SEED M-2 TO THE DEPTH OF 30 CM WHEREIN A. RETROFLEXUS AND C. ALBUM CONSTITUTE 98% OF THE SEED POPULATIONS. RESULTS OF THE SECOND PART OF EXPERIMENT SHOWED INCREASED CONTROL OF WEEDS WITH INCREASING THE WEEDS SEEDS EXPOSURE DURATION OF ALLOPATHIC EXTRACTS.
