Abstract: 

IN ORDER TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTS WATER DEPTH, SOIL DEPTH AND TYPE BARNYARDGRASS ON GERMINATION SPEED AND GERMINATION PERCENTAGE OF BARNYARDGRASS AND EARLY-WATERGRASS, AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED AT RICE RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF IRAN (RASHT) IN 2007. THE EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN WAS RANDOMIZED COMPLETE BLOCK DESIGN (RCBD) WITH THREE REPLICATIONS AND WITH FACTORIAL ARRANGEMENT OF TREATMENTS IN GREENHOUSE. TREATMENTS INCLUDED BARNYARDGRASS SPECIES (ECHINOCHLOACRUSGALLI AND ECHINOCHLOA ORYZICOLA), WATER DEPTH (0, 3, 6 AND 9 CM) AND SOIL DEPTH (0.5, 1.5, 2.5 AND 3.5 CM). RESULTS SHOWED THAT WATER DEPTH WAS NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED ON GERMINATION SPEED, PLANT DIED PERCENTAGE, RADICAL LENGTH AND GERMINATION PERCENTAGE OF EARLY WATERGRASS BUT WATER DEPTH WERE SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED ON BARNYARDGRASS. AVERAGE GERMINATION PERCENTAGE TO WATER DEPTH AND SOIL DEPTH WERE 55/3 % FOR EARLY WATERGRASS AND FOR BARNYARDGRASS 30 %. SOIL DEPTH WAS SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTED FOR TWO SPECIES. INTERACTION BETWEEN WATER DEPTH AND SOIL DEPTH SIGNIFICANT ON MEAN SPEED GERMINATION SUCH AS ON EARLY-WATERGRASS 27, 20, 17 AND 13 % AND ON BARNYARDGRASS 17, 11, 10 AND 4 %.
