Abstract: 

SEED DORMANCY IS ONE OF THE WELL-KNOWN FEATURES IN MANY WEED SEEDS CAUSED WEED CONTROL TO BE HARD. MESQUITE, AS A WOODY PERENNIAL INVASIVE PLANT HAS BECOME TROUBLESOME IN THE ARID AND SEMI-ARID REGIONS OF IRAN. THE EFFECT OF SULFURIC ACID AND SODIUM HYDROXIDE ON BREAKING SEED DORMANCY OF MESQUITE TWO POPULATIONS WAS EXAMINED. FOR THESE TREATMENTS, THE SEEDS WERE SOAKED FOR 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 AND 60 MIN IN 98% SULFURIC ACID OR 10, 20, 30, 40 AND 50 MIN IN 50%, 70% AND 90% SODIUM HYDROXIDE SOLUTION. GERMINATION WERE (72.8%, 54.2%) FOR SULFURIC ACID AND (22.6%, 1%) FOR SODIUM HYDROXIDE (22.6%, 1%) IN BORAZJAN AND KASHMAR POPULATIONS RESPECTIVELY. IN GENERAL SULFURIC ACID FOR 30 AND 50 MINUTES WERE THE BEST TREATMENTS FOR BORAZJAN AND KASHMAR POPULATIONS RESPECTIVELY.
