Abstract: 

PROSTRATE EUPHORBIA (EUPHORBIA MACULATA L.) IS AN IMPORTANT WEED IN SOYBEAN AND COTTON FIELDS OF GOLESTAN PROVINCE. IN THIS RESEARCH, THE EFFECT OF PRE-CHILLING, GIBBERELLIC ACID AND TEMPERATURE ON GERMINATION PERCENTAGE AND RATE OF E. MACULATA SEEDS WAS INVESTIGATED IN 2008. PRE-CHILLING SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED GERMINATION PERCENTAGE BUT HAD NO SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON GERMINATION RATE. SEED GERMINATION ENHANCED AS THE GIBBERELLIC ACID CONCENTRATION INCREASED FROM 500 TO 2000 PPM, BUT THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 1000 AND 2000 PPM. GIBBERELLIC ACID, COMPARED WITH CONTROL, HAD NO SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON SEED GERMINATION RATE. SEED GERMINATION WAS STARTED AT 15°C AND INCREASED AS THE TEMPERATURE RAISED UP TO 30°C. PERCENTAGE AND RATE OF GERMINATION WERE CONSTANT BETWEEN 30 & 35°C AND 25 & 30°C, RESPECTIVELY, BUT THERE WERE HUGE REDUCTIONS IN THESE INDICES AT 40 °C, SIMILAR TO 5 & 15°C BASED ON THESE RESULTS, PRE-CHILLING, GIBBERELLIC ACID AT 2000 PPM AND INCUBATION AT 30°C WERE THE OPTIMUM CONDITIONS FOR SEED GERMINATION OF E. MACULATA.
