Abstract: 

IN ORDER TO STUDY GERMINATION RESPONSE OF LAMBSQUARTER (CHENOPODIUM ALBUM) SEEDS TO SALINITY AND DROUGHT STRESS TWO SEPARATE EXPERIMENTS WERE CONDUCTED AS COMPLETELY RANDOMIZED DESIGN WITH FOUR REPLICATIONS. TREATMENTS INCLUDED OSMATIC POTENTIAL AT FIVE LEVELS OF (0, -0.3, -5, -10 AND -15 BARS). ACCORDING TO RESULTS, ALL STUDIED TRAITS OF LAMBSQUARTER SEED GERMINATION RATE AND PERCENTAGE WERE AFFECTED BY DIFFERENT STRESS SEVERITIES. MATRIC POTENTIAL OF -15 BAR CAUSED GERMINATION RATE AND PERCENTAGE TO DECREASE BY 92.5 AND 84.5 PERCENT RESPECTIVELY. ALSO IN SALT STRESS OF -15 BAR, GERMINATION RATE AND PERCENTAGE DECREASED BY 92.5 AND 80.5 PERSENT. EFFECT OF DROUGHT STRESS ON LAMBSQUARTER SEED GERMINATION RATE AND PERCENTAGE WAS MORE PRONOUNCED THAN THE SALINITY. THE GERMINATION RATE SHOWED MORE REDUCTION UNDER DROUGHT AND SALINITY STRESS THAN GERMINATION PERCENTAGE.
