Abstract: 

CUTLEAF MIGNONETTE IS AMONGST PERENNIAL AND PROBLEMATIC WEEDS OF RESEDACEAE. THIS WEED SEEDS POSSESS A RELATIVELY DEEP DORMANCY AFTER MATURATION. IN ORDER TO STUDY THE EFFECTIVE FACTORS IN DORMANCY BREAKING, AN EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED BASED ON CRD WITH 3 REPLICATIONS AT RESEARCH LABORATORY OF FACULTY OF AGRICULTURE, BIRJAND UNIVERSITY IN AUTUMN 2008 AND WINTER 2009. EXPERIMENT TREATMENTS WERE INCLUDED THE CONTROL, SEED SOAKING IN SULFURIC ACID 96% AT 4 DIFFERENT TIMES (20, 30, 40 AND 60 SEC), STRATIFICATION AT +1ºC AND -8ºC FOR 15 AND 30 DAYS, SCARIFICATION WITH SAND PAPER FOR 1 MINUTE AND SOAKING IN WATER AT ROOM TEMPERATURE FOR 36 HOURS. THIS EXPERIMENT SHOWED THAT THE MAXIMUM GERMINATION PERCENTAGE (73.33%) WAS OBSERVED IN SEEDS SOAKED IN ACID SULFURIC FOR 30 SEC UNDER CONTINUOUS DARK CONDITIONS. MOREOVER, THE HIGHEST GERMINATION PERCENTAGE AT ALL STUDIED TREATMENTS WAS SEEN UNDER CONTINUOUS DARK CONDITIONS, INDICATING A NEGATIVE PHOTOBLASTIC CHARACTERISTICS IN SEEDS OF THIS WEED SPECIES.
