Abstract: 

IN ORDER TO INVESTIGATE METHODS OF DORMANCY BREAKING IN CAMELTHORN SEEDS, A FACTORIAL EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED BASED ON COMPELETELY RANDOMIZED DESIGN WITH 3 REPLICATIONS. FIRST FACTOR WAS THE DORMANCY BREAKING TREATMENTS INCLUDED: MOIST STRATIFICATION AT +1 AND -8°C FOR ONE, TWO AND FOUR WEEKS, SCARIFICATION BY SANDPAPER FOR 1.5 AND 3 MINUTES, SOAKING SEEDS IN BOILING WATER (100°C) FOR 0.5, 1, 3 AND 5 MINUTES, SOAKING SEEDS IN SULFURIC ACID %96 FOR 5, 10 AND 15 MINUTES AND CONTROL TREATMENT (SOWING IN DISTILLED WATER). SECOND FACTOR WAS LIGHT CONDITIONS INCLUDED: DARK AND LIGHT/DARK CONDITIONS AT 25.15°C DAY/NIGHT TEMPERATURE. AT CONTROL TREATMENT, 8 AND 10.66% OF SEEDS GERMINATED UNDER LIGHT/DARK AND DARK CONDITIONS, RESPECTIVELY AND THE OUTCOME INDICATED THE EXISTENCE OF PHYSICAL DORMANCY CAUSED BY SEED CORTEX IMPERVIOUS. ANOVA RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE EFFECT OF VARIOUS TREATMENTS ON CAMELTHORN SEEDS GERMINABILITY WAS SIGNIFICANT (P£0.01), WHILE THERE WASN’T ANY SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENT BETWEEN LIGHT CONDITIONS AND TREATMENTS * LIGHT CONDITIONS INTERACTION. THE MOST EFFECTIVE TREATMENTS IN BREAKING THE DORMANCY OF CAMELTHORN SEEDS WAS SOAKING IN BOILING WATER AND SCARIFICATION BY SANDPAPER BOTH FOR 3 MINUTES UNDER LIGHT/DARK CONDITIONS WHICH RESULTED IN 65 AND 55% GERMINATION, RESPECTIVELY.
