Abstract: 

SOLID WASTES MANAGEMENT WHICH IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT RESPONSIBILITIES OF URBAN MANAGEMENT WORLDWIDE, CAN ALSO BE CLASSIFIED AS ONE OF THE MOST COMPLICATED AND MONEY AND LABOR-CONSUMING CHALLENGES IN MUNICIPAL MANAGEMENT. SEWAGE SLUDGE IS RICH IN MACRO- AND MICRONUTRIENT. HOWEVER, HIGH CONCENTRATION IF HEAVY METALS IN SLUDGE MAY CAUSE POLLUTION OF SOIL, GROUND WATER AND HUMAN FOOD CHAIN BECAUSE OF TOXIC METALS UPTAKE BY CROP. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS STUDY WAS TO EFFECT OF CORN ON THE ABSORPTION AND HEAVY METALS (MANGANESE) POLLUTION IN SOIL TREATED WITH URBAN SEWAGE SLUDGE IN ISFAHAN CITY. THE TREATMENTS OF SEWAGE SLUDGE WERE 0, 25 AND 50 TON HA-1 MAIZE WAS PLANTED IN 7 KG PLASTIC POTS. RESULT INDICATE THAT SEWAGE SLUDGE TREATMENT HAD POSITIVE AND SIGNIFICANT EFFECT ON THE SHOOT DRY MATTER WEIGHT AND HAD SCIENTIFIC EFFECT ON THE BIO CONCENTRATION FACTOR OF COPPER AND TRANSLOCATION FACTOR IN SOIL IN COMPARED TO THE CONTROL. RESULT OF PLANT ANALYSIS SHOWED THAT APPLICATION OF SEWAGE SLUDGE INCREASED MANGANESE IN VEGETATIVE PARTS COMPARED TO CONTROL. HOWEVER SEWAGE SLUDGE USAGE (25 & 50 TON HA-1) INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY (P<0.05) DRY YIELD OF MAIZE (29 & 69% RESPECTIVELY). SOILS PH SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED AS A RESULT SEWAGE SLUDGE APPLICATION. IN GENERALLY, RESULT OF THIS STUDY INDICATED THAT ADDING SEWAGE SLUDGE TO THE SOIL, SHOULD BE ASSESSED, AND BASED ON THE QUANTITY AND INCREASE OF ADSORPTION OF THESE METALS IN THE SOIL.
