Abstract: 

BASED ON THE EXISTING STUDIES THE POLLUTION OF THE RIVERS INCREASED IN IRAN IN THE LAST FEW YEARS ESPECIALLY IN THE NORTH BECAUSE OF VARIOUS SEWAGE DISCHARGES TO THE RIVERS THAT CAUSE SEVERAL NEGATIVE IMPACTS ON THE RIVER’S ECOSYSTEM. CONSIDERING THE LIMITED IN WATER RESOURCES AND STORAGES IN MOST PARTS OF IRAN, POPULATION GROWTH, INDUSTRIAL AND AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES DEVELOPMENT THE PROPER USE OF RESOURCES IS NECESSARY. SO TO MAINTAIN WATER QUALITY IN TERMS OF POLLUTION IS IMPORTANT. TODAY, USING OF WATER QUALITY INDICATORS IS IMPORTANT AS A MANAGEMENT TOOLS IN ANALYSIS OF THE RIVERS’ POLLUTION. IN THIS PAPER THE POLLUTION TREND DURING THE YEAR ANALYZED AND THE WQI INDEX COMPUTED IN SEFIDROUD RIVER BECAUSE THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RIVER IN AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES AND DRINKING WATER PURPOSES WITHIN GUILAN PROVINCE.
IN THIS REGARD NINE QUALITY PARAMETERS INCLUDING TURBIDITY, DO, NITRATE, PHOSPHATE, COLI FORM, TEMPERATURE, TDS, BOD AND PH ANALYZED IN ALL SEASONS THROUGH ONE YEAR IN 5 STATIONS, RESPECTIVELY NAMED 1-POLE AHANI (MANJIL) 2-BAD AZ SADE TARIK 3-BAD AZ SADE SANGAR 4-POLE CHAHARDAH 5-KIYASHAHR, THEN USED WQI INDEX TO CLASSIFY THE WATER QUALITY IN MEASUREMENT STATIONS. THE RESULTS OF THE STUDY SHOWS THAT THE MAXIMUM WATER QUALITY OF THE RIVER IS IN POLE AHANI STATION WITH WQI=65 AND IN STATIONS NUMBER 3 AND 4 WITH WQI=49 THE RIVER HAD THE LOWEST WATER QUALITY VALUES.
