Abstract: 

One of the main requirements in all stages of exploratory operation is determining correct location of exploratory works. In general exploration grid is form of exploratory works arrangement. There are different kinds of exploration grids that selecting kind of it is related to deposit condition and characteristics. In recent research as a case study, kind and dimensions of exploration grid designing for Arak, Shamsabad Iron and Manganese deposit has carried out.
Regarding to geological condition of deposit (the deposit model is stratiform and ore deposit has located as lenses between thick lime stones) and kind and amount of available exploratory information (geophysical exploration results, analyzing results of trenches samples and few boreholes data) exploration grid designing for the deposit has carried out by two methods, analytical method and geostatistics.
By using analytical method which is a method based on statistics and is used to obtain a general idea and determining a introductory exploration grid, a rectangular grid with the dimensions of 150×130 meters determined. Using geostatistics method and drawing directional variograms have created a rectangular exploration grid with the dimensions of 35×230 meters which is different with the grid obtained by analytical method and certainly geostatistics method considering distance correlation and data spatial distribution and accordingly reducing amount of error, is more accurate and that’s results is nearer to fact.
