Abstract: 

WELLBORE INSTABILITY IS CONSIDERED AS ONE OF THE CRITICAL PROBLEMS IN THE OIL AND GAS DRILLING INDUSTRY. WELLBORE INSTABILITY LEADS TO WASTING MUCH TIME AND MONEY IN ALL AROUND THE WORLD. THEREFORE, THE ANALYSIS AND PREDICTION OF THE WELLBORE STABILITY ARE UTMOST IMPORTANCE. THE STABILITY OF A WELL DEPENDS ON VARIOUS FACTORS SUCH AS, DRILLING TRAJECTORY, GEOMETRICAL SHAPE AND AZIMUTH OF THE WELL, IN SITU STRESS, PORE PRESSURE, CHEMICAL AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF ROCK AND MUD WEIGHT. TO PREVENT OF WELLBORE INSTABILITY, IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE ACCURATE ANALYSIS OF THE STRESSES ON THE WELLBORE AND THE EFFECT OF THEM ON THE WELLBORE INSTABILITY IN ORDER TO CASING AND CEMENT DESIGN. IN THIS STUDY, IN THIS STUDY, FACTORS AFFECTING STRESS DISTRIBUTION IS CLASSIFIED, AND ALSO HOW EACH FACTOR IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF STRESSES ON THE WELLBORE IS DESCRIBED. FACTORS AFFECTING STRESS DISTRIBUTION IN TWO CATEGORIES ARE DIVIDED INTO CONTROLLABLE FACTORS AND UNCONTROLLABLE FACTORS. THE MOST IMPORTANT CONTROLLABLE FACTORS IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF STRESSES ON THE WELLBORE ARE THE POISSON RATIO OF CEMENT, MODULUS OF ELASTICITY OF CEMENT AND RATIO OF THICKNESS OF CEMENT TO CASING THICKNESS.
