Abstract: 

CATALYTIC POLYMERIZATION OF ORTHO-HYDROXY PHENOL (CATECHOL) WAS PERFORMED USING THE IRON TETRA PYRIDYL PORPHYRIN AS A CATALYST AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE AS AN OXIDANT IN THE PRESENCE OF SULFONATED POLYSTYRENE (SPS) AS A TEMPLATE. THIS REACTION WAS CARRIED OUT IN PH=2 WATER SOLVENT WITH HIGH YIELD AND THE WATER-SOLUBLE POLYMER WAS OBTAINED. THE WATER-SOLUBLE POLY (CATECHOL) WAS CHARACTERIZED BY FT-IR SPECTROSCOPY, TGA AND CYCLIC VOLTAMMETRY (CV). COMPARING CATECHOL AND POLY (CATECHOL) FT-IR DEMONSTRATE THE POLYMER FORMATION AND ALSO INDICATE THE PRODUCED POLYMER STRUCTURE CONNECTED TO EACH OTHER BY ETHER LINKAGE. ACCORDING TO TGA DATA, POLY (CATECHOL) THAT IS SYNTHESIZED BY PORPHYRIN CATALYST EXHIBITS GOOD THERMAL STABILITY. CYCLIC VOLTAMMETRY MEASUREMENTS SHOW THAT THE SYNTHESIZED POLYMER HAS CONVENIENT ELECTROACTIVITY. THIS SYNTHESIS METHOD IS SIMPLE AND ENVIRONMENTALLY BENIGN.
