Abstract: 

LIFELINES ARE THE FUNDAMENTAL STRUCTURES IN URBAN COMMUNITIES. GENERALLY, CITIES ARE VULNERABLE AGAINST EARTHQUAKE AND ITS CONSEQUENCES, AND THEREFORE IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT NECESSARY MEASURES BE TAKEN TO DEAL WITH EARTHQUAKE. THIS ALSO HOLDS TRUE FOR EACH OF THE CITY'S INFRASTRUCTURES. ONE SPECIAL FEATURE OF GAS SYSTEM COMPARED TO OTHER LIFELINE IS CAPABLE OF ITS EXPLOSION AND FIRE. IF THE GAS SYSTEM AFFECTED BY EARTHQUAKE SEVERE DAMAGE, GAS LEAKS CAN CAUSE EXPLOSIONS AND FIRES. THIS IS CONSIDERED A GREAT DANGER THAT THREATENS THE SAFETY OF THE ENTIRE CITY. THUS, COUNTERMEASURE FOR GAS NETWORK RISK REDUCTION AGAINST EARTHQUAKE IS ESSENTIAL. IN THIS PAPER, AFTER SURVEY OF THE IMPACT OF EARTHQUAKES ON GAS NETWORK IN PAST EARTHQUAKES, APPROPRIATE METHODS FOR CONTINUOUS OF OPERATION AND RISK REDUCTION OF GAS NETWORK WILL BE PROVIDED.
