Abstract: 

SOUR GAS ENTERS TO THE SOUTH PARS GAS REFINERY WITH H2S & CO2 CONTENT OF 0.55 & 2.06 % MOL RESPECTIVELY. IT IS SWEATED BY EAP SELECTIVE MDEA PROCESS. THE PROCESS MAY BE OPERATED TO PERFORM THE COMPLETE REMOVAL OF H2S, WHILE ONLY PART OF THE CO2 IS ABSORBED IN THE SOLVENT. THE PRESENT DESIGN IS BASED ON A SOLVENT CONCENTRATION OF 45% WT. (4N SOLUTION). CIRCULATING MDEA SHOULD BE KEPT ON THIS CONCENTRATION DURING THE OPERATION.
SOME WATER LOSSES WITH OUTLET STREAMS (ACID GAS, FUEL GAS AND SWEET GAS) DUE TO EXOTHERMIC ABSORPTION IN ABSORBER AND HIGH TEMPERATURE IN REGENERATOR. AS A RESULT, CIRCULATING AMINE CONCENTRATION INCREASES. COLD CONDENSATE IS INJECTED TO REFLUX DRUM TO COMPENSATE THE CARRIED OVER WATER AND MAINTAIN THE AMINE ON ACCEPTABLE CONCENTRATION. FROM THE OTHER HAND, IN CASES WHICH CIRCULATING AMINE MEETS THE LOWER CONCENTRATION (<45% WT), THIS COLD CONDENSATE MAKE UP STREAM SHOULD BE STOPPED TO IMPROVE THE CONCENTRATION. THE FOLLOWING CALCULATIONS HAVE BEEN DONE IN THIS REGARD: EXTRACTING THE REQUIRED COLD CONDENSATE FLOW RATE FOR 100% DESIGN RICH SUMMER AND WINTER CASES ACCORDING TO UNIT MASS BALANCE, USING SOME METHODS SUCH AS BUKACEK AND GPSA TO CALCULATE THE WATER CONTENT OF MAIN INLET AND OUTLET STREAMS AND THE REQUIRED COLD CONDENSATE. THESE METHODS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED AS AN GENERAL EXCEL CALCULATION FILE WHICH CAN BE USED FOR DIFFERENT OPERATING CASES, CALCULATING THE MAIN STREAMS WATER CONTENT AND ALSO COLD CONDENSATE FLOW RATE IN FOUR ACTUAL OPERATING CASES BY USING THIS CALCULATION FILE AND COMPARING THEM, AND AS THE LAST STEP, IN CASE OF CIRCULATING AMINE LOW CONCENTRATION, COLD CONDENSATE CAN BE STOPPED FOR A WHILE TO IMPROVE IT TO ACCEPTABLE RANGE, SO AMOUNT OF COLD CONDENSATE WHICH SHOULD BE STOPPED FROM INJECTION FOR A WHILE IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE CONCENTRATION FOR BOTH 1% AND FROM LOW CONCENTRATION TO THE DESIRED ONE AND ALSO THE REQUIRED STOPPING TIME OF THIS STREAM, HAVE BEEN CALCULATED AND PRESENTED AS ANOTHER CALCULATION EXCEL FILE. BY USING THESE FILES, IT IS POSSIBLE TO ADJUST THE AMINE CONCENTRATION MORE EASILY AND ACCURATELY WITHOUT SPENDING MUCH TIME ON REPETITIVE CHANGING THE COLD CONDENSATE INJECTION RATE, SAMPLING AND TESTING THE AMINE CONCENTRATION.
