Abstract: 

THE POROSITY IS A MAIN PROPERTY OF OIL RESERVOIRS THAT BESIDE ANOTHER PARAMETERS SUCH AS PERMEABILITY AND WATER SATURATION DESCRIBES QUALITY OF RESERVOIR ROCK. POROSITY IS THE FRACTION OF A ROCK THAT IS OCCUPIED BY VOIDS (PORES). THE DETERMINATION OF THE POROSITY IS A CRUCIAL TASK IN RESERVE ESTIMATION, PRODUCTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF OIL RESERVOIRS. THE CONVENTIONAL METHOD FOR POROSITY DETERMINATION IS CORE ANALYSIS. THIS METHOD IS VERY EXPENSIVE AND TAKES TIME, FURTHERMORE, MOST OF WELLS HAVE NO CORE SAMPLES. SO, THERE IS A NEED TO USE A METHOD COULD APPROPRIATELY MEASURE THE PETRO PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF RESERVOIR USING AVAILABLE WELL LOGS. BUT DISTRIBUTION OF POROSITY IN WHOLE OF OIL FIELD IS MOST IMPORTANT THAN DETERMINATION OF THE POROSITY. KNOWLEDGE ABOUT DISTRIBUTION OF POROSITY FOR FINAL RESERVOIR MODELING IS CRUCIAL FOR RESERVOIR ENGINEERS. THIS STUDY ATTEMPTS TO USE TWO STOCHASTIC METHODS (SGS AND GRFS) FOR POROSITY MODELING IN ONE OF THE OIL FIELDS IN SOUTHWESTERN OF IRAN. THE RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THIS INVESTIGATION SHOWED THAT THE GRFS METHOD IS SUPERIOR TO SGS METHOD TO PREDICT RESERVOIR POROSITY.
