Abstract: 

AN ACCURATE MODEL OF THE RESERVOIR GEOLOGY IS A CRUCIAL INPUT IN THE RESERVOIR SIMULATION AND FIELD DEVELOPMENT PLANNING. A WIDE RANGE OF METHODS FOR FACIES MODELING HAVE BEEN OFFERED BUT FEW OF THEM CAN REPRODUCE COMPLEX RELATIONS IN THESE GEOLOGICAL STRUCTURES. IN THIS AREA, MULTI POINT STATISTIC (MPS) ALGORITHMS CAN BE USED TO MODEL HIGH-ORDER RELATIONS FROM A VISUALLY AND STATISTICALLY EXPLICIT MODEL, A TRAINING IMAGE.
THIS WORK PRESENTS A PATTERN BASED MPS ALGORITHM TO FACIES MODELING FROM TRAINING IMAGES (TIS) WHICH ARE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE RESERVOIR AS A SPATIAL PHENOMENON. RESULTS SHOWN IN THIS PAPER GIVE VISUAL APPEALING RESULTS FOR THE RECONSTRUCTION OF COMPLEX STRUCTURES. COMPUTATIONALLY, IT IS FAST, EASY TO PARALLELIZE, PARSIMONIOUS IN MEMORY NEEDS, AND STRAIGHTFORWARD TO IMPLEMENT.
