Abstract: 

THE ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE OF AQUIFERS IS ONE OF THE METHODS FOR RESERVING WATERS IN THE AQUIFERS. IT CAUSES EXPANSION AND EFFICIENT REVENUE OPERATION OF WATER RESOURCES. ACCORDING TO OVERUSE OF THE UNDERGROUND WATERS AND BY CONSIDERING SEVERE FLOODS ANDRAINFALLS IN MANY PARTS OF THE COUNTRY, THAT ARE SUBJECTED TO HEAVY AND SHORT-TERM RAINFALLS, THE NECESSITY OF PERFORMING ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE PROJECTS IN EPHEMERAL RIVERS WOULD BE OBVIOUS. ALTHOUGH, THERE HAVE BEEN A CONSIDERABLE NUMBER OF RESEARCHES ABOUT ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE SYSTEMS, THERE HAS BEEN NO METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE RECHARGE EFFICIENCY OF ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE OF EPHEMERAL RIVERS YET. THE GOAL OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO DETERMINE THE RECHARGE EFFICIENCY OF ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE SYSTEMS BY USING THE FLOOD REGIMES OF EPHEMERAL RIVERS. IN THE SUGGESTED METHOD, THE FIRST STEP IS DIVIDING THE FLOOD HYDROGRAPHS OF DIFFERENT RETURN PERIODS BETWEEN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE SYSTEM. USING HYDROLOGICAL MODELING, THE FLOOD OF RIVER IS DIVIDED BETWEEN SPILLWAY, SLUICE GATE AND THE INTAKE OF RECHARGE PONDS. USING RESULT OF THE MODEL, THE INTAKE EFFICIENCY OF PONDS IS DETERMINED FOR DIFFERENT RETURN PERIODS. THEN, ACCORDING TO THE DIMENSIONS OF RECHARGE PONDS AND THE PENETRATED WATER DURING THE FLOOD, THE AMOUNT OF RECHARGED WATER CAN BE DETERMINED USING SEEPAGE FORMULA. FOR DETERMINING THE RIVER BED INFILTRATION, A COMBINATION OF HEC-RAS HYDRAULIC MODELING AND ETCHEVERI METHOD HAS BEEN USED. FINALLY, AFTER DETERMINING THE RECHARGE EFFICIENCY OF RECHARGE SYSTEM FOR DIFFERENT RETURN PERIODS OF FLOODS, THE TOTAL RECHARGE EFFICIENCY OF THE ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE SYSTEM IS DETERMINED BY CALCULATING THE EXPECTED VALUE. THE SUGGESTED METHOD IS USED FOR THE ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE SYSTEM OF EMAMZADEABDOLLAH RIVER OF SEMNAN. THIS SYSTEM IS CONSISTED OF RECHARGE PONDS, ONE DIVERSION DAM AND THE POND INTAKES. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT THE PRESENTED METHOD HAS A SUITABLE APPLICABILITY IN DETERMINING THE RECHARGE EFFICIENCY OF THE ARTIFICIAL RECHARGE OF EPHEMERAL RIVERS. THE AVERAGE COEFFICIENTS OF INTAKE AND RECHARGE OF THE CASE STUDY PROJECT ARE RESPECTIVELY 0.72 AND 0.813.
