Abstract: 
THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS STUDY WERE TO ANALYZE MARKETING OF SAFFRON IN ISTAHBAN DISTRICT, FARS PROVINCE, AND TO INVESTIGATE FACTORS AFFECTING SAFFRON EXPORT OF IRAN. FINDINGS SHOWED TWO MARKETING PATHS FOR SAFFRON IN FARS PROVINCE. IN PATH ONE PRODUCER ARE FOLLOWED BY PERFUMERIES AND CONSUMERS, RESPECTIVELY. IN THIS PATH MARKETING MARGIN EQUALS TO 500, 000 RIALS PER KILOGRAM. IN ANOTHER PATH INCLUDING PRODUCERS – WHOLESALERS – RETAILERS – CONSUMERS, MARKETING MARGIN IS 520, 000 RIALS. PRODUCERS CAN GET MORE THAN 88% OF PRICE PAID BY CONSUMERS IN BOTH OF THE PATHS. MARKETING COSTS AND COMMISSION AGENTS’ SHARE FOR THE FIRST (SECOND) PATH ARE 351, 000 (353, 300) RIALS AND 64% (62%), RESPECTIVELY. BASED ON THE RESULTS, PRICE INEFFICIENCY WAS AS HIGH AS 70% AND 67% FOR THE FIRST AND SECOND PATHS, RESPECTIVELY. TECHNICAL INEFFICIENCY, HOWEVER, WAS 8.5% AND 7.8% FOR THE FIRST AND SECOND PATHS, RESPECTIVELY. REGRESSION RESULTS OF MARKETING MARGIN SPECIFICATIONS REVEALED THAT RETAILER PRICE AND MARKETING COSTS ARE OF MAIN FACTORS AFFECTING MARKETING MARGINS. IN THE CASE OF EXPORT FUNCTION, IT WAS ALSO REVEALED THAT IRAN’S SAFFRON EXPORT IS AFFECTED, TO A GREAT EXTENT, BY WORLD PRICE OF SAFFRON.
