Abstract: 

The possibility of iron reduction from dolomite ore used in steel industries, was investigated. For this reason, phase identification of dolomite ore especially iron compounds from the removal of iron viewpoint was carried out using representative sample. First of all, quantitative and qualitative analysis was conducted using atomic absorption spectroscopy, XRF, XRD and SEM methods. It was revealed that representative sample contains about 2.20% Fe2O3, 18% MgO, and 31% CaO. From XRD results, it was obtained that calcite and dolomite were the two main phases in ore. By thin section studies it was found that iron was available in dolomite ore as Ankerite, Goethite, and Hematite. The degrees of freedom of iron oxides were determined minus 100 micrometer. The bound index was found about 14.9 that is higher than native dolomite (about 11). The reasons of this difference are value of impurities in compound of sample.
