Abstract: 

One of the main resources of vanadium is Ti-V bearing iron ore, which has big deposits in Central Iran, for example Choqart iron ore with 0.3-0.5% V2O5. For evaluating the possibility of vanadium production from Choqart iron ore, at first, vanadium was studied on prepared sample to consider processing parameters.
After mineralogical assessments, electronic scanning showed that there is no independent vanadium mineral and the metal is replaced with Fe III in crystal structure of magnetite. Using Davis tube studies, it was emphasized that vanadium-bearing magnetite has liberation degree less than 150 microns and then it was recognized that wet concentration using low-intensity magnetic method for production of vanadium-bearing magnetite concentrate is suitable.
After crushing, it was known the strength and softening properties of ore. Then in concentration stage by two kinds of low and high intensity magnetic separators, Bluribon and Eritz, in lab and semi-industrial scales, it was produced magnetite concentrate of 0.45% V2O5 from 0.4% V2O5 ore with 94% efficiency.
For vanadium production, it was used salt roasting and water leaching method. It this method by adding defined amount of sodium carbonate to magnetite concentrate and agglomeration, the concentrate is roasted for defined time at 1000oC, water leaching by mixer is the next step.
Effective parameters in vanadium production process include: roasting temperature, sizing of roasting food, roasting duration and salt content which their optimum quantities are 1100oC, less than 106microns, 3hours and 13% respectively.
During oxidation studies, it was understood that more complete oxidation of concentrate, more vanadium recovery. In salt roasting-water leaching stage, by one time roasting of 1kilogram magnetite concentrate of Choqart Mine, which contained 0.22% vanadium, it was derived 3000cc of a solution with 600ppm vanadium with 80% recovery.
