Abstract: 

Column flotation cell is a flotation machine which is widely substituted in most of USA, Canada, Africa and Australia mines instead of mechanical cells. In this research the effect of increasing of air rate on hydro dynamical and metallurgical performance of laboratory column flotation cell was investigated. The result by using of a translucent PVC cell with diameter of 7.4 cm and 153 cm length, feeding of Hematite, sampled from rougher flotation cells of Chador Malu Iron ore processing plant, shows that increasing air rate from 1 to 2.7 LPM firstly causes increasing in gas hold up in collection zones (bubble flow) but rising of gas rate to more than 2.7 LPM does not increase gas hold up and gas hold up becomes idle (turbulent flow). By increasing of gas rate, bias rate decreases in bubble flow and increases in turbulent flow condition. Height of froth zone and residence time will increase and decrease in both flow respectively. At bubble flow condition, by increasing gas rate, recovery increases in over flow whereas decreases in under flow. In turbulent flow condition increasing of gas rate causes recovery decrease in overflow and increases in underflow respectively.
