Abstract:

OBJECTIVE: TO EVALUATE THE ROLE OF SERUM TESTOSTERONE AND 24 HOURS URINE CITRATE ON THE GENERATION OF URINARY STONE IN MEN AND TO APPLY THE FINDINGS FOR PREVETION OF THE UROLITHIASIS.
METHOD AND MATERIALS: OF 84 PATIENTS REFERRED TO IMAM KHOMEINI HOSPITALS UROLOGY CLINIC AND SEDA SIMA ESWL CENTER, 42 WITH URINARY STONES AND 42 NORMAL CONTROLS WERE ASSESSED. THE AGE RANGE WAS BETWEEN 18 AND 72 YEARS. ALL THE TESTS WERE DONE IN A UNIQUE LABORATORY END SPSS 10 USED TO DERIVE THE RESULTS.
RESULTS: IN PATIENTS WITH THE HISTORY OF URINARY STONE THE SERUM TESTOSTERONE LEVEL WAS 3.59-25.10 NG/ML WITH MEAN VALUE OF 16.73 NG/ML AND STANDARD DEVIATION OF 5.8. URINARY CITRATE IN THIS GROUP WAS 20-480 MG/24 HRS WITH THE MEAN VALUE OF 169.42 MG/24 HRS AND STANDARD DEVIATION OF 112.72. IN CONTROL PATIENTS, WITHOUT ANY HISTORY OF UROLITHIASIS, THE SERUM TESTOSTERONE WAS BETWEEN 5.30–34.5 NG/ML WITH THE MEAN VALUE OF 19.25 NG/ML AND SD OF 8.12.
THE URINARY CITRATE OF THEM WAS 20-500 MG WITH MEAN VALUE OF 152.42 AND SD OF 144.71. P VALUE FOR URINE CITRATE 0.561 AND FOR SERUM TESTOSTERONE 0.308 WERE DERIVED.
CONCLUSION: REFERRING TO STATISTICS, NO EXPRESSIVE DIFFERENCE WERE FOUND BETWEEN THE TWO GROUPS, AND IT SEEMS THAT THE ROLE OF SERUM TESTOSTERONE AND URINARY CITRATE ON UROLITHIASIS IS INSIGNIFICANT.
