Abstract:

PURPOSE: ONE OF THE PROBLEMS FOLLOWING GYNECOLOGY SURGERY IS URINARY RETENTION WHICH HAS SOME PSYCHOSOMATIC EFFECTS: IN THIS STUDY WE EVALUATED URINARY RETENTION FOLLOWING GYNECOLOGY SURGERY (I.E. CYSTOCELE, RECTOCELE, VAGINAL OR ABDOMINAL HYSTERECTOMY) AND THE EFFECT OF CATHETER CLAMPING AS A PREVENTIVE WAY.
MATERIALS & METHODS: IN A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY A TOTAL OF TOO PATIENTS WAS EVALUATED AT OUR HOSPITAL FROM MARCH 2000 TO FEB. 2001. ALL OF THE PATIENTS ENTERED & THIS STUDY WERE INTERVIEWED ANDAGE, G, TYPE OF SURGERY, CATHETER CLAMPING WERE ASKED.
RESULTS: URINARY RETENTION WAS COMMON IN PATIENTS 25 TO 35 YEARS OLD (24%), GRAVIDITY 4 (38%), ANTERIOR-POSTERIOR COLPORRAPHY (22%). IN 84% OF PATIENTS CATHETER CLAMPING DID NOT PERFORMED IN 16%OF PATIENTS IN WHOM CATHETER CLAMPING HAD BEEN DONE URINARY RETENTION RECURRED, IT MEANS CATHETER. CLAMPING WAS NOT EFFECTIVE IN TOO %.
CONCLUSIONS: IT SHOULD BE CONSIDERED THAT OTHER ETIOLOGIC FACTORS ARE EFFECTIVE IN URINARY RETENTION AND CATHETER CLAMPING ONLY, CANNOT PREVENT IT COMPLETELY.
