Abstract:

PROPOSE: THE GENUS OF SALMONELLA IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT ENTEROBACTERIACEA FAMILY. SALMONELLA TYPHI AND PARA-TYPHY ARE CAUSES OF TYPHOIDAL AND PARA-TYPHOIDAL INFECTIONS, WHEREAS NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLA WITH 2200 SEROTYPES (SALMONELLA TYPHIMURIUM, VIRCHOW, HAWANA, DERBY AND ENTERTIDIS AND …) ARE CAUSES OF NON-TYPHOIDAL INFECTIONS SUCH AS GASTROENTERITIS AND SEPTICEMIA. A FEW NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLA CAN CAUSE URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS (UTI) IN HUMAN. THE AIM OF THIS STUDY WAS ISOLATION OF NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLA FROM PATIENTS WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS (UTI) BY SDS-PAGE METHOD.
METHODS & MATERIALS: IN THIS STUDY, 318 CASES OF SALMONELLA STRAINS WERE COLLECTED FROM EIGHT LABORATORIES OF HAMADAN MEDICAL CENTERS FOR 4 YEARS AND WERE STUDIED IN DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL MICROBIOLOGY. THE TYPE OF DISEASE, SAMPLES SOURCES AND DEMOGRAPHICS DATA WERE GATHERED THROUGH QUESTIONNAAIRE AND ANALYSED USING EPI6 SYSTEM. SEROTYPING OF STRAINS WERE PERFORMED BY BIOMERIX MONOVALENT ANTISERA (MADE IN FRANCE). WHOLE-CELL PROTEINS OF STRAINS WERE ALSO DETECTED BY TAYLOR ET AL METHOD. GELS WERE STAIND BY COOMASSIE BRILLIANT BLUE AND PHOTOGARPHED THROUGH AN ORANGE FILTER. RATE FLOW (RF) OF EACH PROTEIN BAND WAS ALSO DETERMINED.
RESULTS: OF 318 CASES OF SALMONELLA SPECIES, ONLY 13 CASES (4.1%) WERE ISOLATED FROM PATIENTS WITH URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS. FIVE CASES (38.4%) WERE S. TYPHI AND 8 CASES (61.6%) WERE NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLA. S. TYPHYMURIUM 4 CASES (30.7%), S. SPECIES 2 CASES (15.3%), S. CHOLERAESUIS AND S. ENTERTIDIS EACH 1 CASES (7.6%) RESPECTIVELY. THE RESULTS OF SEROTYPING WERE COMPARED WITH THE RESULTS OBTAINED BY SDS-PAGE. MANY PROTEINS BAND FROM 116 KDA TO 35 KDA WERE DETECTED BY SDS-PAGE AND DIFFERENTIATED THE STRAINS WELL. PROTEIN PROFILES OF CLINICAL STRAINS WERE COMPARED AND SHOWED SOME VARIATIONS WITH RESULTS OF SEROTYPING AND COULD DIVIDED THEM TO 5 SUBGROUPS.
DISCUSSION & CONCLUSION: THE OUR RESULTS SHOWED THAT SOME OF NON-TYPHOIDAL SALMONELLA SUCH AS S. TYPHYMURIUM BE ABLE TO CAUSE URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS (UTI) IN HUMAN THAT STRAINS ISOLATED FROM PATIENTS WERE CONFIRMED WITH SDS-PAGE METHOD.
