Abstract: 

To extract the open pit mine, final pit limits is divided to a series of nested pits so that blocks of the first pit have the highest value for extracting. Gradualy that pit is extracted, profit of blocks is decreased and blocks in final pit have the lowest profit.
This method is not practical for all situations because design the most valuable pits does not necessary cause required stripping to reach to highest grade ore blocks. In other words, Whittle method does not guarantee optimality of push back generation if it is needed to initial stripping. Dagdelen and Ramazan have expressed that it may the best ore is been ore that in addition to having high grade, it is needed to minimum stripping.
In low grade and needed to stripping sections, NPV of minimizing w/o ratio method is more than one in Whittle method but in high grade and without stripping sections, Whittle method will have higher NPV. To reach to the maximum NPV, minimum stripping ratio push backs should be used with previous designed ones for scheduling expanding.
