Abstract: 

The equation proposed by Shob, Dimen & Davis (1986) is being used to assess the damage caused due to blasting during excavation process in rock mass media. The equation used is in V=KWa Rb which V is particle velocity, W is The weight of the charge per delay , R is the distance from the blasting source , a and b are the constants depending on blasting conditions, and K is a coefficient of blasting transmission, which is a function of geomechanical properties. In this research work initially the particle velocities in different directions are recorded, and their respective distances up to the recording geophone are measured. Then, by using a suitable software the particle velocity VS. The measured distances are plotted and the coefficient ‘K’ was estimated. By determination of various media properties, such as; the rock mass rating, the joint number, the incorporated rock density of each section, and the angle s in between the section and the bedding strikes of that particular section, An empirical equation was suggested. This suggested equation defines the relationship in between the geomechanical properties and the blasting wave transmission coefficient, K.
