Abstract:

Now-a-days tailing management is one of the prime concerns in most of well established organizations. In this research, industrial wastes of the Sarcheshmeh concentration plants from various aspects such as type, amount, ways of storage and disposal were studied and overall impacts resulting from discharging these wastes into the environment were also evaluated. These materials based on their methods of production were classified into three groups namely wastes resulting from mineral processing, repair and human being activities. The weight of the first group was estimated to be 21.39 milliard tons per year which includes 13.5 million tons of tailings, 205000 tons of ball mill rejects, 1260 kg remaining chemicals in the containers, 430000 tons water vapor and carbon dioxide, 7.2 M cubic meters of effluents and the remainder in the forms of dust and fine particles and sounds. The estimated weight of the second group was determined to be 1.77 M tons which constitutes 88.5% tramp irons, 10.8 % rubber and the rest includes non ferrous metals, asbestos, fabrics and oil. The weight of the third group was negligible compared to the other groups. The main strategies of waste management such as "prevention", "recycle" and "disposal" and in some cases "re-use" and "sales of scrap" were studied and the profitability level of implementing such strategies at the Sarcheshmeh complex was determined. The study revealed that 50.54 milliard Rials of profit could result if proper tailings management strategies are implemented. On the other hand, a lack of proper waste disposal method in addition to environmental hazards could lead to some losses. The presentation of these figures could help managers in making appropriate decisions in regards to improving environment, prevention of ugly and polluted landscapes, re-use or sales of scarps in other industries.
