Abstract: 

Applications of fracture mechanics in the strength analysis of rock and ceramic materials have been lately studied by many researchers. Many test specimens have been proposed in order to investigate fracture resistance of cracked bodies under mixed mode conditions in this paper, first a review of four fracture test specimens which have been used more frequently is presented. It is shown that the SENB specimen under asymmetric four- point bending is the an appropriate test specimen for the determination of mixed-mode fracture parameters. The stress intensity factor and the elastic T-stress are calculated for this specimen using finite element analysis. These parameters are widely employed for determining mixed mode fracture toughness of rock materials. The results are shown for different crack lengths and loading conditions.
