Abstract: 

Previous study showed that Teucrium polium boiled extract can reduce the blood pressure (BP) in normo-tensive rats. In this research the effect of hydro-alcoholic extract of Teucrium polium on reno-vascular hypertension induced by Goldblatt method has been investigated. Twenty male wistar rats (250-350gr) were randomly divided into 3 experimental groups including: sham operated control and treatment groups. The rats anesthetized with ketamin-xylocine and left kidney’s vessels exposed. Then a silver clip with 0.2 mm internal diameters was placed on the kidney's artery and sutured surgery site. Surgical procedure relatively was done in sterile condition. One month later animals anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium and kidney's artery and vein catheterized for BP recording and intra venousinjection. Teucrium polium (25 mg/kg) or vehicle was injected by intra venous method, after baseline BP recording. Our results showed that silver clip placing on the kidney's artery increased BP from 120/80 mm Hg in sham operated group to 160/120 in control and treatment groups. Vehicle injection had no effect on BP in sham and control groups. While Teucrium polium (25 mg/kg) administration intreatment groups reduced BP transiently from 160/120 to 110/90 and then increased BP for the longer time to 180/140. In conclusion, our pilot study showed that intra venous injection of hydro-alcoholic extract of Teucrium polium may reduce BP transiently in Goldblatt hypertension model in rat.
