Abstract:

Moringa oleifera (Mo) has been used in African folk medicine. Some researchers revealed anti rheumatic and anti articular pain of some parts of (Mo). This study was aimed on analgesic properties of hydroalchoholic extracts isolated from leaf and root of (Mo), on CFA induced arthritis. The leaf and root extracts dose (200, 300 and 400 mg/kg) 60 min before and 3, 6, 9, days after induction of CFA induced arthritis injected intraperitoneally. Results revealed significant reduction of thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia by leaf extract 300 and 400mg/kg in comparison with control group at day 3rd and 6th. There was also significant reduction of thermal hyperalgesia by root extracts 300 and 400mg/kg in comparison in control group at day 3rd and 6th The potency of plant extracts were similar with the standard drug Indomethacin even the leaf extract 400mg/kg on reduction of thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia was more potent than Indomethacin 5 mg/kg. There was no significant reduction on mechanical allodynia by root extracts 200, 300 and 400mg/kg. The results of the combination of the root and leaf extracts 200mg/kg (unaffected dose) showed only significant reduction on thermal hyperalgesia at day 3rd and 6th which was compared with Indomethacin, 5 mg/kg and more potent than root and leaf extractions 200 mg/kg respectively. The results of preemptive injection of the combination of the root and leaf extracts 200mg/kg showed significant reduction of thermal hyperalgesia and mechanical allodynia at day 3rd and 6th which was compared with the Indomethacin 5mg/kg and was more potent than root and leaf extracts 200mg/kg respectively.
As a conclusion it seems that the hydroalchoholic extracts of Moringa root and leaf in effective doses and combination root and leaf extracts in uneffective dose have analgesic effect on CFA induced arthritis. So it recommend that Moringa extracts root and leaf itself or along a drug to be used for allevilation of pain.
