Abstract: 

Most herbal medicine is being marketed without any standard toxicological study and it is a common believe that herbal medicine have no toxic effects on human. However many reports indicating the toxicity of the herbal medicine, Seems mentha pulegium has been use extensively traditional medicine, the aim of present investigation is to study of the Effect of from Leave Mentha Pulegium Alcoholic Extract hepatic functions.
In this experiential study,50 wistar male rats, use weighting about 220- 230g each were used in five groups tens including : control without received nothing, sham group received distilled water and 3 experimental groups receiving 400, 800, 1600 (mg/kg) Leaves of Mentha Pulegium Hydro- Alcohol Extract respectively.
According to the result there is a reduction significant in the level of ALT, AST in experimental groups. In addition, the level of ALP showed a significant increase. In respect to albumin and total protein there has been a decline in the experimental groups receiving the highest dose of the extract and a reduction in the total body weight accord with increase dosage of extract.
Hydro-Alcohol Extract of mentha pulegium leaves probably has a significant effect on hepatic activity. This effect may due to present of Flavonoids (Hesperidin, diosmine), antioxidant, tannin and pulegone in the extract. This effect is reflected in the reduction of ALT, AST and increase in ALP. Furthermore, as a result of a decrease hepatic in serum level of the albumin and total protein.
