Abstract:

Epilepsy is a common Central Nerves System (CNS) disorder, of which the prevalence is 1% among general population. In this study, the frequency of epilepsy and its associated problems were studied. 1248 epileptic patients were investigated in this descriptive-observational study. The seizures were classified to generalized, focal, and focal with secondary generalization. Data were analyzed using Excel software. In this study, the ratio of male to female was 1.01 and the most patients were 12-18 years old. The frequency of generalized and focal seizures was 76.3% and 18.7%, respectively. The data showed that seizures were idiopathic in 85.7% and symptomatic in 14.3% of cases. Since this disease affects the social behavior and life span of epileptic patients, early diagnosis of epilepsy will reduce morbidity and mortality.
