Abstract: 

Introduction: The influence of electromagnetic field (EMF) on nerve regeneration has tested in-vitro and in-vivo. Electromagnetic fields have been shown that have some effects in the mammalian peripheral nerve regeneration. However there are different ideas and controversial about biological effects of electromagnetic fields. In this study was investigated the influence time periods of EMF of lesioned sciatic nerve in Wistar rats.
Materials and methods: Rats were divided into experimental (2 groups, n=10), control and sham groups. The experimental groups one day after surgery for sciatic nerve compression, were exposed to EMF (50 HZ, and 1.1 militesla), for 10 days. The 1st experimental group was exposed 4 h/day and the 2nd experimental group 2 h/ day. Rats in the control group (n-10) weren’t exposed to EMF after sciatic nerve lesion and the sham group (n=10) did not undergo the of sciatic nerve compression procedure. Nerve regeneration was evaluated using electromyography and was measured the rate of delay time.
Results: Statistical analysis indicated that the average delay time was increased in the experimental groups as such as control group as compared with sham group but this increment was not significant. Also the average delay time between experimental groups did not show significant difference.
Conclusion: This study indicate that t
here was not any obvious and significant positive effects on sciatic nerve regeneration after to form of time duration of EMF treatments.
